TRYOUT DAY INFORMATION

Player Evaluations

Tryouts: The Insider's Guide

Tryouts for baseball seem very nerve-wracking, but it shouldn't be. This guide is intended to explain the process so that both parents and players understand why we have tryouts, what occurs tryout day, and how the information is used.

Who participates in Tryouts?
Tryouts are for Minors, Intermediates, and Major level teams only.

Why do we have to tryout?
Tryouts provide coaches with a fair way to evaluate players, thus ensuring balanced teams. Our goal is to give every player a fun experience, and one way to ensure fun is to try to make teams as balanced as possible.

What do we do during tryouts?
Every player is evaluated doing four things: Hitting, Running, Fielding and Throwing. Swing at a few pitches, catch and field a couple balls, and make a few throws. There’s nothing more to Tryouts. The following is what will happen specifically at tryouts:

  1. Check in at welcome desk and get number.
  2. Get sized for jersey.
  3. Each player will be assigned to a group of 3 to 5 players.
  4. Player will start with batting. Each player will get 4 at bats from the pitching machine.
  5. Player will field 4 balls from shortstop and throw to 1st base.
  6. Players will field a pop up fly ball.
  7. Players will pitch 4 balls to a catcher.
  8. Return number to desk.

When should I tryout?  What time should I arrive to the field?
Every player should do whatever they can to tryout with their age group or the age group they will be playing with throughout the season. Each player will be assigned to a specific group and time.  The schedule will be emailed to each family at least a week prior to tryouts.  The schedule is currently:
